More Than An Athlete Mentorship

DT More Than an Athlete Mentorship program has a goal of creating a more equitable society by closing the academic and opportunity gap for motivated young student athletes, setting the standard for academics, mentorship, positive peer support and a powerful lifelong network.

We want to ensure our scholar-athletes become competitive college applicants, sought after recruits and confident aspiring professionals.

Our project-based, hands-on mentorship model involves mentor and mentee workshops, with topics including researching and applying to summer enrichment programs and recruiting camps, beginning the college application process (crafting personal narratives, researching colleges, etc.) and building professional skills (interview training, resume-building, networking).

Mentors and Mentees are expected to attend 10 Saturday sessions for 1.5 hours throughout the school year. After graduating from the program, students will continue to receive support and mentorship from the DT community as they take their academic and athletic careers to the collegiate level.

Speaking Engagements

Board Directors Terrell Huff, Devonté Dillion and Raishaun McGhee all have backgrounds playing sports. Through trial and error, they found a way to use sports as a means to leverage other opportunities.

Through that, they’ve Co-Founded a program that allows athletes to learn and grow beyond their athletic abilities, while gaining mentors, doing community service programs and public speaking opportunities to share their journey.
